Optimism- hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something.
When thinking about the last week of this Gratitude challenge optimism was the biggest theme that came to my mind. I know I personally can’t be grateful with out some confidence that my current situation isn’t going to have a hopeful outcome. Growing up I was lucky enough to have parents who were optimistic during all the lows and highs.
I think being optimistic allows you to see any “negative” as something so small and knowing that it soon shall pass. Optimism allows you to jump out of your own sh** and be grateful for everything else in your life you may have, for example: You lose your job, definitely a negative. BUT you are grateful for what you learned while your time there so you can bring all that knowledge to your next opportunity.
I’m not saying flipping the negative to positive is easy while being optimistic but here are some tools I have learned that help me stay on track.
- Stay in Motion
What I mean by this is once any situation arises that isn’t in your favor staying in motion in life will help you not wallow in what was, whether thats as simple as going to a workout class, setting up coffee with friends or starting a new hobby. Staying in motion keeps your mind active and out of the negative.
- Surround yourself with positive
I know I have more times than not chose to surround myself with other people who wanted to stay in the negative and complain about everything that was wrong about a situation instead of get to the positives. Who you are around makes a BIG impact on how you react to situations. So always be aware of your surroundings gems! Make a conscious choice to leave when the conversation doesn’t serve you.
- Have a mantra
When the going gets tough I think an awesome outlet is to bring yourself to an uplifting mantra to keep your head out of getting stuck. Repeating a mantra over and over in your head when any anxiety sets in always supports me to getting in my optimistic mind set and grateful for the moment.
Hope some of these tools that support me support you throughout your most optimistic week ever!
Grateful for you!
